No More Private SMTP Server : Port 25 Blocked By TMnet
According to the TM Net Latest News, Telekom Malaysia Berhad is blocking all SMTP traffic or port 25 for all out going emal from tmnet dynamic IP addresses.
With this latest policy, only Outbound SMTP traffic from smtp.streamyx.com and smtp.tm.net.my will be allowed. Streamyx customers who have their own mail server (Example: mail.YourDomain.com) or subscribe email hosting with hosting provider will not be able to send out e-mails using email program.
Most web hosting provider operate port 25 as a smtp port by default. In order to overcome this issue, hosting provider should change the port to another port such as port 26.
This example only for web hosting provider using WHM/cPanel as a web hosting control panel.
Login to your WHM , normally http://yourmailserver.com/whm
Go to Main >> Service Configuration >> Service Manager
Tick on Enabled and Monitor to enable smtp port to run on port 26 as below and save it.
Customer / email user also have to modify the smtp setting based on email client they use as below :
MS Outlook
1. Tools > Account Settings
2. Double click on your email account > More Settings
3. Goto Advanced tab, under Outgoing server (SMTP), change the port 25 to 26.
Outlook Express
1. Start Outlook Express, click the Tools menu at the top of the window and then click Accounts.
2. Double click on your email account
3. Goto Advanced tab, under Outgoing server (SMTP), change the port 25 to 26.

2. At the left pane, select the entry Outgoing Server (SMTP). The Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings appear on the right.
3. Edit to , change the port 25 to 26.
4. Click the OK button.
Another solution, you may change your SMTP server to the open-relay server provided by TM. But I don’t think TMNET smtp server is reliable
Kindly refer to http://webmail.tm.net.my/info/proxy.html on how to configure your email client in order to utilize this relay server. Alternatively, your e-mail administrators can refer to http://webmail.tm.net.my/info/smtp-proxy.html as a guide to configure your company’s email servers.
In my opinion, latest smtp policy by tmnet may hurt web hosting provider as they announce it on 3rd / Dec 2007 and they implement it on the same day. Why? Because customer keep calling and ask why they can’t send out email. Hosting privider also kelam kabut to change the smtp port and have to updates customers regarding this smtp issue.
